Terms of Use

Draft. Written by the developer on 9 September 2026. Not yet reviewed by a lawyer, and not legal advice. It will be finalised before the app is listed on the App Store. The app shows a summary of these terms on first open; this is the full text.

These terms are the agreement between you and Flushr's developer for using the Flushr app and this website. By tapping "I agree" in the app, or by using it, you accept them. They are also the end-user licence agreement for the app.

1. Who can use Flushr

You must be 13 or older. The app asks you to confirm this before anything else, and we remove accounts we learn belong to anyone younger. If you use Flushr on behalf of someone else, you confirm you are allowed to.

2. Your account

Flushr starts you as a guest with no personal details. You may add an email address and password to keep your diary across devices. Keep the password to yourself; what happens under your account is your responsibility until you tell us it has been compromised. You can delete your account at any time in Settings, and everything it holds goes with it, as described in the Privacy Policy.

3. What you post

You own what you write. By posting a toilet, a rating, a note or (when sharing arrives) anything else that other people can see, you give Flushr a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store it, show it to the people you chose to share it with, and display aggregate ratings of public toilets to everyone. A public toilet you add is a shared fact, like a pin on a map: it stays for everyone after you delete your account, with your name taken off it. Everything private stays private, and goes when you go.

4. The house rules

Flushr rates the room. These rules exist so that stays true. You agree not to post:

• anything about a body rather than a room. Descriptions of what anyone did in a bathroom, bodily detail, or content designed to disgust. The vocabulary in the app is fixed for a reason. (Your own optional health field is private and is not "posting".)
• photos or images of any kind. The app has no way to add one; do not find one.
• harassment, threats, hate, or bullying aimed at any person or group, including in a toilet's name or a note.
• sexual content, or anything that sexualises a place or a person.
• someone else's private address: a home or other private toilet that is not yours, named or placed so that it identifies where a person lives.
• spam: advertising, repeated junk, fake toilets, fake ratings, or anything that games badges or scores.
• anything unlawful, or that infringes someone else's rights, or that impersonates anyone.

Flushr has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Content that breaks these rules is removed, and accounts that post it may be suspended or closed without notice.

5. Reports, blocks, and what we do

Every piece of content that other people can see carries a Report button, and every profile carries Block. When you report something, we are emailed at once, and we act within 24 hours: we look at it, remove it if it breaks these rules, and remove the account of anyone who keeps breaking them. Blocking someone means they cannot see what you share and you cannot see what they share. Reports are confidential: nobody is told who reported them.

6. Flushr's content

The app, its name, its badges, its vocabulary of descriptors and the artwork are ours. Public toilet data seeded from OpenStreetMap is used under the Open Database Licence and carries its attribution in the app. Ratings, on the other hand, are opinions: a five-star throne is somebody's view, not a certified fact.

7. What Flushr is not

Flushr is a diary and a bit of fun. It is not medical advice, and the optional Bristol scale field is a note for you, not a diagnosis. Toilets marked public may be closed, moved, or not as described; we cannot promise a bathroom is where the map says. The app is provided as is, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from using it or from relying on anything in it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

8. Ending things

You can stop using Flushr at any time, and delete your account in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if we have to shut the service down, in which case we will try to give reasonable notice on this site.

9. Changes

When these terms change in substance, the version date at the top changes and the app asks you to agree again on its next open. Carrying on after that is acceptance.

10. The App Store

If you got Flushr from Apple's App Store: these terms are between you and Flushr's developer, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, is not responsible for any claim relating to the app or your use of it, and is a third-party beneficiary of these terms with the right to enforce them against you. Your licence to use the app is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as allowed by the App Store's usage rules.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the law of the developer's home jurisdiction, and disputes go to its courts, without taking away any protection you have as a consumer where you live. [Draft note: the jurisdiction is to be confirmed before launch.]
